Daniel Winkler, Director, Claims Legal Support, Westfield Insurance Group
Dan Winkler is responsible for overseeing Westfield Insurance’s litigation management program. He has been a featured speaker and author on the topic of litigation management and the use of technology in enhancing the litigation management process, drawing upon both his experience as a practicing attorney and on his 15 plus years of experience in the claims and litigation management arena. Mr. Winkler is an active member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and numerous professional organizations including the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. He currently serves as a member and advisor on a number of industry related committees which include committees serving the LEDES and UTBMS efforts.
John P. McGann, Vice President, Claims Legal Services, OneBeacon Insurance
As one of the earliest adopters of electronic invoicing technology, OneBeacon has more than five years of aggregated invoice and performance metrics data, representing hundreds of millions of dollars in fees and expenses, to use in evaluating and guiding their litigation management strategies. Through John’s leadership, OneBeacon has saved millions of dollars in legal expense while improving results. John is charged with streamlining the invoice review and disposition processes and ensuring the realization of the benefits of aggregated electronic invoice data to generate litigation management reports, evaluate the effectiveness of outside counsel, implement cost reduction strategies and evaluate internal staffing choices.
A former litigation attorney focusing on the defense of architects and engineers, he has held a variety of legal positions with national insurers handling environmental coverage matters and litigation management initiatives. He has been an attorney for 23 years and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Currently he is responsible for managing OneBeacon’s 13 Staff Counsel Offices, Legal Coverage Unit, Legal Bill Review Unit and has oversight responsibility for panel counsel administration (including the company’s e-billing program).
Faiz Ahmed, Vice President, Insurance Solutions, CT TyMetrix
Faiz was the founder and CEO of Visibillity, Inc., one of the first companies that provided electronic litigation management and e-billing solutions to the insurance industry. With a user base of 40,000 lawyers and insurance claims professionals, Visibillity was recognized by Forrester and Hurwitz as a company that was changing the insurance claims industry. After years of successful growth, Faiz guided Visibillity to its eventual sale to Bottomline Technologies.
Faiz currently leads CT TyMetrix’s insurance initiative, drawing on his experience as a practicing defense attorney, an insurance claims executive, and a thought leader and CEO of Visibillity. Prior to joining CT Tymetrix, Faiz was a Director at Navigant Consulting, where he was a senior member of Navigant's Claims Process Improvement practice.
Faiz is a frequent speaker at insurance industry events, and has written many articles on litigation management published in the leading insurance journals.
